Documents, logistics and support: what is worth knowing before you travel for your care.

Choosing Puerto Vallarta for your procedure means combining care from board-certified specialists with a destination made for a calm, oceanside recovery. And while it may sound like a vacation — and in part it is — a health tourism trip flows smoothly when you plan ahead.

At Healthcare by the Sea we walk with patients from the United States, Canada, and Mexico through every stage: from the first video call to the follow-up once you are back home. This practical guide covers the essentials so you can arrive relaxed and focus on what matters most: your well-being.

Documents: first on your list

Having your paperwork in order prevents airport headaches and speeds up your check-in at our center. Put together a physical folder plus a digital copy with:

  • A valid passport or ID (and a visa, if required for your nationality).
  • Your medical history, recent test results, and a list of the medications you take.
  • Appointment confirmations and the center's contact information.
  • Your travel insurance policy and emergency contacts.
  • Digital copies of everything in your email or cloud storage.

Flights and lodging: arrive with time to spare

We recommend landing one or two days before your appointment: you can rest from the flight, stay hydrated, and get familiar with the route to the center without rushing. Because we are an outpatient center, in most cases you return to your hotel the same day as your procedure, so your lodging also becomes your recovery space.

What to look for in your hotel

  • Short distance to the medical center (quick, stress-free transfers).
  • An elevator or a ground-floor room if your procedure limits movement.
  • Air conditioning, a comfortable bed, and in-room dining options.
  • A flexible policy in case your doctor suggests staying an extra day.

What to pack (and what to leave at home)

The golden rule is comfort. Pack light, but with intention:

  • Loose, easy-to-wear clothing and comfortable slip-on shoes.
  • Your usual medications in their original packaging, with the prescription handy.
  • Charger, adapter, and headphones for your downtime.
  • Sunscreen, a hat, and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
  • A book or downloaded shows: rest is meant to be enjoyed too.

Leave jewelry, valuables, and a packed itinerary at home: this trip is about taking care of yourself.

Coordinating with the center and your companion

Weeks before you travel, our team reviews your schedule, pre-visit instructions, and any questions by phone or video call, in your language. As for payments, our policy is straightforward: every case is assessed first and you receive the information in writing before making any decision.

Your companion's role

Traveling with someone you trust makes a real difference: they are with you on the day of your procedure, listen to the medical team's instructions alongside you, and support you during those first hours at the hotel. If you are traveling alone, let us know in advance so we can help you arrange the support you need.

Language and remote follow-up

At Healthcare by the Sea, all care is bilingual (English and Spanish): consultations, written instructions, and every message afterward. Once you are back home, follow-up continues remotely through video calls and messages to review your progress, answer questions, and coordinate with your local doctor if you prefer. Distance never interrupts our care.

Your trip starts with a conversation

Every person and every case is different, which is why the first step is never booking a flight — it is talking with our team. In a no-obligation assessment we review your situation, answer your questions, and explain what your travel and care plan would look like, all in writing and with no fine print. Puerto Vallarta is waiting; we will make sure you arrive prepared.
